Snow Day Reading!
We had two days off from school because of snow last week. I also had a bad case of hives and spent a lot of time on the couch! So, what a perfect time to just read! Here are some of the books I read:
A Tangle of Knots by Lisa Graff
This book was confusing! It has many points of view and they change quickly. I am wondering if I should read it again....maybe the medication I was taking for hives clouded my comprehension!! There are many recipes for cake that I enjoyed. I actually wanted to just get up and bake.
Escape From Mr. Lemoncello's Library by Chris Grabenstein
Imagine Charlie and the Chocolate Factory but in a library setting for the plot of this book. There are lots of connections with the Dewey Decimal system, libraries and authors. Select kids are invited to a lock-in night in the brand new town library and have to solve the mystery of how to escape. This book would be fun for a librarian to read aloud to a class.
Hiding Out at the Pancake Palace by Nan Marino
Elvis Ruby is a 11 year old singing sensation who freezes on stage. To avoid being hounded by the press he hides out in a small town with a family friend. She owns the Pancake Palace and Elvis tries to blend into the woodwork as he works in the restaurant. A friendship develops with a girl named Cecelia who is looking for the music that played when she was born. This is an interesting personality story with the touch of the mystical woven into the plot.
The Year of Billy Miller by Kevin Henkes
Billy Miller is a second grader and this book is the story of his year at school. It is funny and typical of a 2nd grade class. This is the perfect book for the youngest readers looking for chapter books since this fits the bill for their interest level. Billy Miller is similar to the Ramona character or Clementine. This book was also a 2014 Newbery Honor book.
